About

An independent intelligence platform on nature and the economy. We measure how much of the economy depends on living systems, how much it costs them, and what that is worth, and we publish what we find.

Our public research is free. Our tools and advisory work fund it.

We were founded in 2026 in South Africa, at the moment a strong El Niño made the cost of nature loss impossible to ignore, and at the point where global accounting standards began to treat nature as a line item. We work from Africa, where much of the world's remaining natural capital, and the start of many of its supply chains, are found, for boards, investors and institutions everywhere.

What we publish

Nature Balance Sheets. One page per listed company: what it takes from nature, what it does to nature, what it discloses, and what that is worth at risk. Free for the world's largest companies, starting at COP17 in October 2026.

The Nature Quadrant. Every company placed by its dependency on nature and its impact on it. The map that becomes the fund rating.

Fund Truth. An independent rating of every fund and ETF sold with "biodiversity" or "nature" in its name, scored on what the holdings do to nature rather than what the marketing says. Every fund manager gets a right of reply before publication.

The Nature Ticker. The live counters on our home page: what the world finances against nature and for it, at the honest average rate, with every source on the page.

The BE Brief. One chart, one number, one argument, on Thursdays.

How we work

  1. Facts first, always sourced. Every headline figure carries its source and date. Where we estimate, we say so and show the method.
  2. Nature's side, in the market's language. We advocate for nature by making it legible to capital, not by shaming capital.
  3. Publish the uncomfortable. If a "biodiversity fund" is a tractor fund, we say so. If a company improves, we say that just as loudly.
  4. Open methodology, closed data pipeline. Anyone can audit how we score. The scale and speed of the pipeline is the product.
  5. Africa is a vantage point, not a niche. It is where the natural capital is and where the supply chains begin.
  6. Urgency without hysteria. El Niño is a fact, not a slogan.

Independence

Our ratings are never for sale. Our methodology is public. We hold no positions in the companies or funds we rate. Advisory clients are scored by the same pipeline as everyone else, reviewed by someone not on the engagement, and every engagement letter says so.

Research is assisted by Nature Analyst, our AI research system. Every published figure is human-verified against its source. Corrections are posted at the top of the corrected piece and listed on the Corrections page.
